When you are chipping, to play a 100 yard pitch shot, play the ball in the middle of your stance and make a 3/4 swing.
The less loft your club has, the more you will tend to slice the ball.
Fun Fact: A three piece golf ball has an inner & outer core and a layered cover; the two cores are of different densities.
When preparing to hit your shot, confidence is key. Uncertainty leads to tension and error. Feel confident before swinging.
It is common courtesy to be quiet and still while someone is hitting a shot.
When you are putting, the shaft of the putter should point between the forearms, not above or below.
After establishing a line of putt, the target is the break point on that line. Line your ball up with the logo perpendicular to the line of the putt.
General rule of thumb: It is inappropriate to run while on the green.
To help avoid turning a birdie putt into a bogey putt, follow the path of the ball as it goes by the hole. If you follow it closely, it can give you an idea of how to adjust your next putt to hopefully save par.
Start the first 6 inches of your downswing slowly…then accelerate if you want to make good, clean and consistent contact. This one habit will correct 75% of your miss-hits and help build correct muscle memory for your swing.
It can be frustrating to hit a great shot only to see it slowly fade to the right 100 yards into the flight path, otherwise known as delayed slice. This may not be because of your swing. It may be due to your alignment. When you are playing a ball on a “downhill lie” be sure to set your target to the left of where you actually want the ball to go to compensate pushing the ball to the right.
Your swing is not simply dependent on your upper body. It is important to make sure that you have the correct correct leg and foot action, as this will enable your shoulders to unwind last and more precisely.
The most important part of the swing is the contact and follow through. The back swing is useless without a good follow through.
Golf is a game of consistency and repetition. A normal “full swing” shot should have the same ball position for all of your clubs. This means if you put the ball in the center of your stance for a 7 iron, it should be in the center of your stance for all normal “full swing” shots with any other club . This will ensure that, at least at the start of the swing, you are consistent.
This is so you can say learned something new today. A typical golf ball has 382 or 384 dimples that provide lift when the ball is struck correctly. You’re welcome.
Now that we are looking at nice, warm weather; I think it is important to make sure you are not “that guy” on the course. You do not want to be the reason 5 hour rounds are taking place. A lesser person may send some warning shots at you to pick up the pace. One way to make sure this does not happen is to prepare your putts while waiting, to avoid delaying other players.
